Emerging story
In January 2021, social media users started circulating about receiving emails that alleged that NHS is offering COVID-19 vaccines in return for payment or bank details.
Misbarβs Analysis
Our investigation found the NHS emails fake and sent by scammers. On the NHS official website, there is no required registration for the vaccination. The scam emails in the circulating claim include a link to "register" for the vaccine. The fake site also asks for bank details either to verify identification or to make a payment. The NHS says it would never ask for bank details, and the vaccine is for free.
The NHS warned users to be careful from the scam emails and not provide them with personal details, they also explained details on how they will be contacted for vaccines.
The COVID-19 vaccine is free of charge on the NHS.
