Social media accounts and pages have shared a picture claiming it's a man injured by Al-Houthi in Yemen. The circulating picture alleges the man with an amputated leg is one of Al Houthi's crimes. Users also claimed that the boy in the picture is the son of the man on the crutches.
Misbar’s Analysis
Using Tineye and Google reverse search Misbar found that the claim misleading. This picture was taken in Palestine, not Yemen. The photograph belongs to a Palestinian citizen from the Gaza Strip, Basem al-Dakhni, injured during The Great March of Return protest in the Gaza Strip. Al Dakhani was shot by Israeli Forces live fire. The photos published on websites and accounts on April 23, 2019, after his injury.
News websites published more photos of him and a number of people who lost their limbs at the Great March of Return.
What is The Great March of Return?
The Great Return March was a nine-month protest organized by Palestinian activists, and political factions in Gaza demanding to end the blockade on the Strip. According to OCHA, the Israeli Forces killed 195 Palestinians (including 41 children) and injured nearly 29,000 people (including over 7000 wounded with live ammunition.
