On February 1st, 2021, Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted that “Democrats own the minor-grooming @ProjectLincoln.”
The tweet received more than one thousand retweets with a few different reactions from users. One side joined Marjorie Taylor Greene’s attack on the Democrats, claiming that “pedophiles are democrats."
The other popular reactions to Greene’s tweet included attacking her, attacking Trump, or claiming that Republicans own the Lincoln Project.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found this claim to be fake. Taken directly from the Lincoln Project’s website, “The Lincoln Project is a group of former Republicans who worked to defeat Donald J. Trump’s reelection and will continue to battle Trumpism in America.”
The mission statement of the Lincoln Project says that: “Electing Democrats who support the Constitution over Republicans who do not is a worthy effort.”
The founders of the Lincoln Project include George Conway, Steve Schmidt, John Weaver and Rick Wilson. In a 2019 op-ed in the New York Times announcing the creation of the Lincoln Project, they state: “We have been, and remain, broadly conservative (or classically liberal) in our politics and outlooks. Our many policy differences with national Democrats remain, but our shared fidelity to the Constitution dictates a common effort.”
Marjorie Taylor Greene’s tweet comes at a time when one of the founders, John Weaver, has been “accused of making overtures to young men.” It seems that Greene’s tweet is trying to link the John Weaver situation with the conspiracy theory that Democratic politicians are pedophiles.
The Lincoln Project released a statement on John Weaver through Twitter, attempting to distance themselves from him.
