The Claim

Myanmar used Dominion Voting Systems software to run its 2020 election.

Emerging story

After Aung San Suu Kyi’s ruling party in Myanmar won their parliamentary election, their opposition alleged election fraud. Despite the ruling party rebuffing those claims, the military seized control in February 2021. Rumors began circulating on social media that the alleged fraud in the Myanmar election is a result of the country using Dominion Voting Systems.

Users across social media continued to push this claim.

Misbar’s Analysis

The Misbar team has determined that the claim is false. Disinformation has been circulating regarding Dominion Voting System’s role in the 2020 U.S. election and this appears to be more of the same. The rumors surrounding the election in regards to Dominion Voting System are similar to the rumors in the U.S.

report on the 2020 election in Myanmar has no mention of using Dominion Voting Systems, and more importantly, indicates that no electronic voting system was used to conduct the election in the first place. The election was held using paper ballots. As such, we rate the claim as false.
