Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar has discovered that South Africa has received its first COVID-19 vaccine doses. According to CNBC.com, one million AstraZeneca vaccine doses were greeted at Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
According to NDTV.com, the shots of the AstraZeneca were produced by the Serum Institute of India. The Institute is scheduled to send another 500,000 doses later this month. President Ramaposa said the first batch of doses will go to the front-line health workers.
South African leading expert on the virus Salim Abdool Karim warns the BBC that if wealthier nations are selfish with the vaccine, then no one will be safe around the world: “There’s no endgame that sees one country succeeding in controlling the virus while the rest of the world is dealing with rampant spread.”
The South African government plans to inoculate two-thirds of its population by year-end, or roughly 40 million people.
