Misbar’s Analysis

Time is a magazine that inhabits almost every American grocery store cashier aisle. Time includes regular “special edition” issues usually focused on dead celebrities or tv shows. On February 2, 2021, they published an article entitled “The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election,” a controversial article with a controversial name.

In said article, the author asserts that, in their words, a shadowy cabal is responsible for “fortifying the election” in favor of Democrats. This cabal is allegedly some kind of coordination between businesspeople and political activists. This has understandably spawned outrage in some political circles, especially amongst those who actually believe there is a shadowy cabal and a secret campaign.

Misbar’s investigation found that the language of this article is definitely loaded with words associated with conspiracies, such as the aforementioned cabals and shadows. However, there’s nothing secret about this supposed shadow campaign. Much of the article centers around a veteran political activist who taught left-leaning organizations to advertise correctly and to use efforts to safeguard mail-in voting. This doesn’t exactly align with the article’s promise of being an exposé on voter fraud conducted by secret conspiracy groups. While this article is certainly in-depth and, in this Misbar writer’s opinion, a worthy read, it’s not what it initially presents itself as being.
