In February 2021, video and pictures of two circles in the sky of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, stormed the internet.
News websites and social media users claimed that the pictures show "two moons", or a double moon, on what social media users called “in a strange and rare phenomenon.” and some called it “ a rare astronomical event that occurs once every thousand years”.
Misbar’s Analysis
According to Al Khaleej Times, Phobos and Deimos, the two moons orbiting Mars, were projected in the sky using a new technology that has never been seen before in the UAE.
Two giant 100-meter cranes and an advanced 40-meter screen were used to make the moons appear realistically in the sky and visible from long distances.
Reports have been published confirming that the two objects seen in the videos are a light projection of the Mars moon - Deimos and Phobos - in the sky of the Al Qudra desert in Dubai, to celebrate the upcoming arrival of the Hope probe to its orbit around Mars.
"A new technology unprecedented in the United Arab Emirates" was used to complete the show, according to Gulf News.
