The Claim

Biden removed military flags from the oval office.

Emerging story

On January 20th, a Twitter user reshared a post from Fox News. The post included the words “Biden ditches military flags as part of Oval Office makeover.”

The post quickly received more than 292 quote tweets and several hundred likes and retweets. Many of the responses to this event were negative, reflecting anger that the President could do such a thing.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar finds this claim to be true. President Biden has in fact taken the liberty of redecorating his office following his inauguration just as many presidents before him.

New photos show a very clean and organized office with pictures of Abraham Lincoln and Harry Truman. He also has images of Franklin D. Roosevelt and George Washington, along with busts of civil rights and labor leaders.

One of the most notable differences from Trump’s office is the removal of the military flags that previously sat behind the resolute desk. Instead, these flags have been replaced with an American flag and Presidential Seal, along with family photos, as shown in the image below.

This may be compared to Trump’s office that included numerous flags.
