Emerging story
The claim has circulated on social media throughout the years, but was shared again following Biden’s inauguration as President of the United States.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that the claim is selective. In 2016, then-Vice President Biden officiated the wedding for White House staffers Brian Mosteller and Joe Mahshie at his Naval Observatory home.
In 2017, he married Henry Munoz and Kyle Ferrari.
While the Vice President’s Office is located in the West Wing of the White House, the Naval Observatory home at One Observatory Circle is on the White House grounds – not within the White House itself. The claim stating that Biden officiated a wedding at the White House is unclear, since it was on the White House grounds but not at the actual White House. This is analogous to recent Misbar investigations about Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s experience during the Capitol riots; while AOC was not in the Capitol building itself, she was in the Capitol complex.
