The Claim

Trump and his family were dancing to "Gloria" and cheering on the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.

Emerging story

On February 12th, 2021 Twitter user @JRehling tweeted: “Donald J Trump lied saying that he saw people in New Jersey cheering for a terrorist attack on 9/11. There is video of his family dancing to 'Gloria' and cheering on a terrorist attack on January 6.”

The tweet received more than one thousand retweets and nearly five thousand likes. Twitter users responded by wondering how Donald Trump is “still out of jail,” calling him a “Scumbag and traitor.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar’s investigation found this claim to be fake. The original video was posted by Donald Trump Jr. on Facebook, but he has since deleted it. The video can still be seen here and here. The video is filmed by Donald Trump Jr. and features his girlfriend and Trump advisor Kimberly Guilfoyle, Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, former President Trump and others. They are gathered in a white tent watching multiple screens while the song “Gloria” plays in the background. In the beginning of the video, Kimberly Guilfoyle dances to the music and later encourages Trump supporters to “have the courage to do the right thing — fight.” Donald Trump Jr. refers to Mark Meadows as a “real fighter.”

As you can see in the video, it clearly takes place before Trump gives his speech on January 6, before the rioting and storming of the Capitol. At the 0:27 mark of the video posted on Twitter, you can see the screens showing the “Save America March” signs with many people gathered outside of the capitol, waiting for Donald Trump to speak. Donald Trump Jr. says in the video “T-minus a couple of seconds here,” referring to the time left before former President Trump takes the stage.

Yahoo News and WION both reported that the video was taken before Trump’s rally, citing that the video was posted at 12:34 pm on January 6. According to the USA Today, the storming of the Capitol began at 1:10 pm.
