Misbar’s Analysis

One of Joe Biden’s campaign promises was to halt Trump’s strict immigration policies. Not long after his inauguration, the Associate Press published an article noting that hundreds of deportations are still occurring.

Because of this, some assert that Biden was lying or misrepresenting his actual policy goals.

However, Misbar's investigation found that while deportations are occurring, it’s not because of Biden’s policies. Instead, it's because of a failure to stop the Trump administration policies, which have given ICE the ability to enforce strict border laws. Biden has attempted to halt and review these laws and even tried to implement a 100-day moratorium on deportations. However, this effort was subsequently blocked by a judge who deemed it unconstitutional.

On February 17, 2021, Biden unveiled new ICE deportation guidelines that temporarily restricts the causes agents can use for deportation.
