Dr. Rosena Allin-Khan, a member of the UK Parliament, tweeted a photo featuring a nurse wearing a bin bag. Her tweet points to corruption in the UK government regarding PPE access during the pandemic. “If you've got the Health Secretary on WhatsApp, you get a PPE contract," she writes. "If you're a nurse working on the frontline, you get a bin bag. Profiteering, cronyism and shameful incompetence.”

Misbar’s investigation found this claim to be fake. The nurse pictured is not from the UK. The photo shared in Dr. Rosena Allin-Khan’s tweet was taken in Huesca, Spain on March 31st of 2020. It was taken by Alvaro Calvo of Getty Images at the San Jorge hospital.
The same photo was used in a news article on the BBC’s website from April 2020.
The article discusses the lack of access to PPE early in the pandemic. It also features a picture of a UK doctor tying a bin bag to the back of her colleague’s head.
While there have been reports that nurses in the UK have also had to use bin bags as PPE, Dr. Rosena Allin-Khan used a photo of a nurse wearing a bin bag from Spain.
