The Claim

Oprah Winfrey provided girls for Harvey Weinstein to sexually abuse.

Emerging story

On March 7, 2021, Oprah Winfrey conducted an interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, which we have discussed here at Misbar. After the interview, social media users began to “remind everyone” about Oprah’s alleged part in grooming victims of convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar conducted a reverse image search of the photo accompanying the viral claim and found that the third person in the photo is Rita Ora, who was 23 at the time the photo was taken. This means that she was not an underaged girl being groomed by Oprah.

One of the articles being shared by social media users was published in 2018 on NewsPunch. However, according to Media Bias Fact Check, NewsPunch is a questionable source that spreads conspiracy theories and fake news. The actor discussed in the article, Kadian Noble, said that Weinstein “dazzled” her when he introduced her to Oprah and Naomi Campbell. However, she never said that Oprah in any way groomed her for or pimped her to Weinstein.

A dorm matron at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa was arrested for sexually abusing young girls. However, Oprah fired her and disavowed her alleged actions, and the matron was later acquitted of all charges.

Oprah and Weinstein were once friendly, but since his arrest she has spoken out against him many times. Since there is no evidence to support the claim that Oprah supplied Weinstein with girls, we rate this claim as fake.
