Emerging story
A video has been widely circulating on social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube, of two pilot drones playing volleyball. The video zooms in slowly on two drones flying amidst tall buildings while passing a volleyball back and forth between each other. Some users were impressed at the abilities of the drones.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbars investigation found the claims to be false. The original video is posted by Iranian visual effects artist Hamid Ebrahimnia on his Instagram, with nearly 147000 people. He captions the video “drone pilots playing in quarantine. I did all animations in Cinema 4D, tracked in Mocha and composited in After Effects,” as pictured below with the caption circled in yellow.
Furthermore, Ebrahimnia has many more animated videos on his account, including one of the tiny elephants in his parking yard and a flying, dancing whale amidst mountains, amongst many others. Therefore, the Misbar team finds this is not a real video of drones playing volleyball, but rather special visual effects animation made using computer-generated images and video manipulation.
