Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found this claim to be fake.
In a press briefing on March 9, 2021, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that the president’s signature will be missing on the stimulus checks included in the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.
“We are doing everything in our power to expedite the payments and not delay them, which is why the president's name will not appear on the memo line of this round of stimulus checks,” Psaki said Tuesday. “The checks will be signed by a career official at the Bureau of Fiscal Service. This is not about him; this is about the American people getting relief.”
When asked whether or not President Joe Biden wanted his name to appear on the checks, Psaki responded, “He didn’t think that was a priority or a necessary step. His focus was on getting them out as quickly as possible.”
In April 2020, former President Donald Trump’s name was printed on the stimulus checks sent by the IRS. These checks were part of the $2.2 trillion stimulus plan, delivering $1,200 to most Americans. According to the AP, this was the first time a president’s name has appeared on any IRS payments.
