President Buhari Denied Clone Rumors in 2018
Claim has been debunked by ING in 2018 (Screenshot).

The Claim

Buhari’s look-alike seen driving a bus in Lagos state is his clone or twin brother.

Emerging story

A photo of an alleged Buhari’s look-alike which was first posted by a Twitter user identified as @Tqswaggerboi and later shared by another user here which got more than 3k retweets, 10k likes, and 6k replies and also shared by popular comedian, AY on Facebook with over 1.3k shares and more than 3k comments is currently being misinterpreted by many.

The photo, and video which shows a public bus driver with some sort of resemblance to President Buhari is currently being taken out of context by some Nigerians as some have taken same to be Buhari’s twin brother while others even say he is the famous Jubril who was alleged to have been Buhari’s double used to replace him shortly after he returned back from a long medical trip in August 2017, after spending 104 days, a record which had surpassed that of the late President Umaru Yar'Adua.

Misbar’s Analysis

Even though some users such as this made comments suggesting that Buhari was a clone, claiming it’s his twin brother, Misbar’s investigation shows that these claims are false.

The claim has been debunked earlier by InformationNG when President Buhari met with his surprising look-alike, and The Guardian, CNN, AND QZ also reported in the past that President Buhari had debunked the claim.

President Buhari has had a series of medical visits and stop-overs in the UK over the years giving room for such rumors to fly around. Some eight months into his first tenure as President, he had traveled to the UK on February 5, 2016.

Between 13th to 15th May 2016, he was at the Anti-corruption summit in the United Kingdom. The conference had various heads of state from around Africa in attendance.

On June 6, 2016, Buhari again left Nigeria for his first medical vacation as he took a 10-day medical trip to treat an ear infection and further extended the visit by three days. He returned on June 19, 2016.

In January 2017, Buhari traveled to the UK for 51 days.

Forty days after, Buhari had to travel again to the UK for medical attention on May 8, 2017, and was there till August 19, 2017, spending 104 days becoming his longest so far, surpassing that of late President Umaru Yar’Adua.

On September 21, 2017, he traveled from the US to the UK for medical purposes and returned to Abuja on September 25, 2017.
