Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation finds the tweet's veracity shows that the man touted as an Assistant Commissioner is fake, as results show that he is merely an impersonator. The official Police Twitter handle has since flagged the tweet down as fake here.
Again, the incident happened as far back as 2019 and not this year as claimed in the tweets.
A reverse image search reveals that the incident happened as far back as 2019, reported by Premium Times and Sahara Reporters.
According to the Premium Times, the fake Police officer's arrest police had happened in Akwa Ibom state. The then Commissioner of Police in the state, Musa Kimo, had paraded the suspect, named Kingsley Udoyen and several others.
Kingsley Udoyen, who resided at 3 Stadium Road, Abak, was arrested on January 2 and has since been charged to court.
The man in the trending tweet is not an Assistant Police Commissioner, as claimed.
Our team found that the same story was viral in 2019. The claims are, therefore, not valid.
