Misbar’s Analysis

President Buhari indeed left Nigeria for the UK on a routine medical trip on Tuesday. However, Misbar’s investigation found that the photos of ‘Nigerians’ shared in the tweet are false. Nigerians didn't gather to protest or ‘send back the president to Nigeria’ as claimed in the viral tweet.

A reverse image search of the two photos reveals that while the first picture was taken during a solidarity walk by Nigerians in the UK against Police brutality on the 21st of October 2020. The second picture falsely circulating was taken from this article in The Guardian in 2019.

President Buhari left Nigeria for the UK on Tuesday for a scheduled routine medical check-up and is expected back in the country by the second week of April.

The last time he traveled out for a medical check-up was in 2019.
