Kardashian Photo Removed for Possible Copyright Infringement
The Claim
The Kardashians are trying to remove a bikini photo of Khloe Kardashian from the Internet because it is unfiltered.
Emerging story
This weekend, a photo was posted to Reddit of Khloe Kardashian wearing a leopard print bikini and standing by a swimming pool. It was reportedly unfiltered and looked very different from her normally altered photos. The photo supposedly began on Instagram but was deleted before appearing on Reddit. It was soon removed from Reddit as well. Users speculated that it was removed because it showed Kardashian without filters or edits.
Misbar’s Analysis
After the initial posts were removed with very little comment. A Reddit user, u/calithetroll, wrote a long thread detailing the drama as it unfolded. The consensus on Reddit about Khloe Kardashian’s unaltered person was overwhelmingly positive.
Regardless of the welcome change from the highly “face tuned” photos Kardashians usually post, the photo and threads were removed. Users speculated that the lack of filter was the reason.
“Face tuning” refers to any number of modifications to a photo. Reddit even has a subreddit, InstagramReality, dedicated to calling out users attempting to pass off manipulated photos. The Kardashians are commonly posted on the subreddit due to their consistent use of photo manipulation.
Though users are free to speculate as to the full reason the photos have been removed, Reddit threads note that a possible copyright infringement is the reason. In a statement to Page Six, chief marketing officer for KKW brands said, “Khloé looks beautiful but it is within the right of the copyright owner to not want an image not intended to be published taken down.” She said that the photo had been taken by an assistant and had been posted to social media by mistake.
In a world where posting a fake face is the norm, legal threats are a harsh reality.
