The Claim

There is an active serial killer on the loose in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Emerging story

It seems to be serial killer conspiracy season. Not even a week ago, Misbar debunked the claim that there’s a serial killer attacking women in Hot Springs, Arkansas; and this week, it’s rumored that there’s a serial killer targeting young women around Louisiana State University.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar could find no evidence to support the claim. Baton Rouge has been home to several serial killers, however. In 2017, Kenneth Gleason allegedly began a “four-day streak of terror,” killing or attempting to kill several men. Between 1994 and 2004, Sean Vincent Gillis murdered at least eight women. And between 1992 and 2003, Derrick Todd Lee murdered at least seven women.

However, despite this sordid history, we could find no evidence that there is currently a serial killer on the prowl in Baton Rouge. The body of LSU student Kori Gauthier was recently found after she was reported missing in early April, but police said that they do not suspect foul play. The body of Raemel Richardson was discovered in March, but her boyfriend Jonathan Bryant has been arrested and charged with her murder.

We also contacted the Baton Rouge police department, who said that they have no suspicions of a serial killer targeting women in the area.
