A video circulating on social media, particularly Facebook and Youtube, claims that clashes occurred between Mohammad Dahlan supporters in Gaza, Palestine. The video depicts people fighting in a supermarket. The accompanying caption reads, “Physical clashes inside a mall between supporters of Dahlan because of coupon theft” in Arabic. Users claim that the clash is due to the theft of coupons by current Dahlan members. The claim has risen against the backdrop of the purchase vouchers announced by several charities in Gaza to help low-income families during the month of Ramadan.
The Misbar investigation found this claim to be misleading. The video clashes in Lebanon amidst rising inflation and the worst economic crisis faced in 30 years. Alarabiya, Al Jazeera, Sky News, and Alhadath's Twitter account posted the video circulating on 14 April, as seen below.
The articles reveal that the incident was of people fighting over subsidized food products in Lebanon. The economic crisis currently experienced in Lebanon pushed many over the poverty line. They add that many similar videos have been recorded lately of clashes over essential food items, such as clashes over bread and subsidized sugar. Given the context of the claim, the Misbar team confirms it as misleading. The video occurred in Lebanon and not in Gaza, Palestine.
