After contracting COVID-19, social media users across the MENA region claimed on Monday that the senior cleric Sheikh Youssef al-Qaradawi died. The claim went viral on WhatsApp groups, Facebook, and Twitter.

Misbar's investigation found the circulating false. Senior cleric Sheikh Youssef al-Qaradawi, the chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, has contracted COVID-19, his official Twitter account said.
The tweet on Saturday said Qaradawi, who is in his 90s, was receiving medical care and doing well.
According to Al Jazeera, the son of Al Qaradawi denied the news of his father's death.
The 94-year-old, prominent Islamic scholar is reportedly in good condition.
