Emerging story
The claim and accompanying video went viral following a summit between the U.S. and Japan – the first in-person summit of the Biden/Harris administration.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that the video was digitally manipulated. In the original video from April 16, 2021, Prime Minister Suga does not have a Trump sign or MAGA cap. The official video was released by the White House.
President Joe Biden also met with Suga. The U.S. and Japan committed to work together against issues posed by China. Biden said: “Today Prime Minister Suga and I affirmed our ironclad support for the U.S.-Japanese alliance, and for our shared security. We committed to working together to take on the challenges from China and on issues like the East China Sea, the South China Sea, as well as North Korea, to ensure a future of a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
Since the video was digitally manipulated, we rate this claim as false.
