Social media users circulated a video showing a person tossing money in the street. According to users sharing the video, a man who died due to COVID-19 in New York asked his friends to distribute his money in a public square.
The video shows a man carrying a bag in his hand and starting to take out bundles of money and scatter it in the street to passers-by.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found that the circulating misleading, the man who created the video said he was paying tribute to an allegedly shot friend. The man in the video is Maqsoud Aghadjani, the owner of the New York jewelry store TraxNYC. He was distributing "money for free to people in Times Square in New York, in memory of his friend Joe Kush, who was killed about a year ago in a shooting in Detroit."
The man in the video can be heard saying: “A year ago today a friend of mine died. He was a rain man. His name is Joe Kush. He got killed. And there were some pieces he made that he never finished...he was a dude that was making good money, and got killed for nothing. And I want to kinda commemorate him.”
The man tossing money did not mention anything related to COVID-19.
