The Claim
White Claw has released a new product with higher alcohol content.

The claim went viral on social media in late April 2021.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation discovered that White Claw, the alcoholic seltzer brand that has inspired infinite memes, multiple songs, and the line “ain’t no laws when you’re drinking Claws,” has in fact released a line with higher alcohol content.
Just in time for summer, White Claw Surge has 8% alcohol content, as opposed to the approximately 5% alcohol content in previous lines.
We can debunk the notion that there are no laws while drinking White Claw, however. For example, in July 2020, a Virginia man was sought for stealing a 12-pack of White Claws. In June 2020, a Nebraska man was arrested after throwing a can of White Claw at police. And in April 2020, a California man was arrested after drinking White Claw while robbing a bank.
White Claw released its new Surge line following alcoholic seltzer rival Truly’s release of an 8% line last month.
Since White Claw is releasing a new higher-content line, we rate this claim as true (if potentially dangerous).
