The Claim

Caitlyn Jenner hired former Trump consultant and political adviser Brad Parscale for her gubernatorial run.

Emerging story

On Friday, April 23, Caitlyn Jenner announced via Twitter that she was running to unseat current California governor Gavin Newsom, who will face a recall election sometime later this year. As Jenner's run for the governor's mansion in California was trending, many people pointed out that she hired Brad Parscale as an advisor – who, according to Axios, is also a personal friend.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar looked into the claim and found that in early April, news broke that the former Olympian and reality TV star was "talking with political consultants as she actively explores a run for governor of California." Days after that, the New York Post reported that Parscale was “assisting” Caitlyn Jenner while she considered "a potential challenge to California Gov. Gavin Newsom in this year’s recall."

According to the Post's story from early April, Parscale was only helping with "staffing critical personnel'' and hadn't taken on any official roles. A source close to Parscale said he "was not interested in being campaign manager for a second time," but didn't rule out a more involved role down the line.

Parscale began working with the Trump family as early as 2012, building websites for their various business interests. By 2015, he was hired on to build a website for Donald Trump's exploratory bid to become president and was officially named digital media manager in 2016. Two years later, Parscale was elevated again to reelection campaign manager, famously calling Trump's 2020 reelection campaign "Death Star."

Parscale lost favor within the Trump campaign amid plummeting poll numbers and after boasting of record numbers of tickets for a rally in Tulsa, Okla., in the summer of 2020, which was sparsely attended. He later stepped back from the Trump campaign after allegations of spousal abuse and bizarre arrest video surfaced in late September of 2020, as we discussed here at Misbar.

As of late April, when Jenner made her bid for the California governor's mansion official, Parscale maintained his role as a consultant only
