Emerging story
Throughout the month, social media users have been posting that Michigan has either requested or even authorized a “full forensic audit” of the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s analysis found no evidence of Michigan requesting or authorizing a second audit of the results of the 2020 election. Michigan conducted a full audit of votes in March. That audit was a full recount by hand of all voting ballots cast. Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson stated after the audit that the 2020 election “was the most secure in history, and the results accurately reflect the will of Michigan voters.”
On March 2 Benson’s office published a press release stating that “all of the state’s more than 250 election audits are complete, and every one of them confirmed the integrity and accuracy of the 2020 general election.” Her testimony from May 12th further confirms that the audits are complete and their outcome has been accepted: “The 2020 election was the most safe, secure and accessible in our state’s history.”
No news source is reporting new audits and the Secretary’s office, which would be authorizing and conducting the audits, has made no claim of it. With the lack of any evidence, it is safe to conclude that the claim is false.
