An Israeli Twitter user recently shared a video purportedly showing Hamas militants using innocent children as human shields as they fired long-range bombs with the caption “Hamas using children as human shields.” At least 15k Twitter users have watched the viral post within a few hours.
Misbar’s Analysis
MENA: Our investigation shows that the claim that this is a recent video showing Hamas militants in Gaza is false. Our checks also reveal that the video has been around for a while. Ali Abunimah, the co-founder of The Electronic Intifada, debunked the video. Further investigations also show that the video is actually from Syria and not Gaza, as claimed. The description states, “After the brutal SAF-Barrel Bomb Attacks, these Syrian kids decide to answer Assad. The man is shouting slogans against Bashar al-Assad in the video, another obvious indication that this video has absolutely nothing to do with Hamas or Gaza.
The video was posted on 12 February 2014 with the title “** MUST SEE ** Syrian Kids Launching Mortar Together!”
