Misbar’s Analysis

MENA: Misbar’s investigation found that Black Lives Matter, an organization whose mission statement includes bringing “justice, healing, and freedom to Black people,” tweeted on May 17 that it “stands in solidarity with Palestinians.”

However, standing in solidarity with Palestinians is not the same as standing with Hamas, a militant Palestinian resistance group. Hamas does not represent all of Palestine or all Palestinians. Nowhere in the tweet or elsewhere does BLM say that they support “Hamas terrorists.”

The original Fox headline does not reflect BLM’s stated stance. The article’s headline was later replaced with “Black Lives Matter 'stands in solidarity' with Palestinians, vows to fight for 'Palestinian liberation.’”
