Misbar’s Analysis
MENA: Misbar has discovered that according to BBC.com, both Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas have agreed to stopping the latest fighting in the Middle East. A ceasefire was agreed upon on May 21 after at least 243 people, including more than 100 women and children, were killed in Gaza. In Israel, 12 people, including two children, were killed, its medical service says.
The ceasefire came after 11 days of fighting. The latest violence followed a month of rising tensions in Jerusalem. According to USA Today, the ceasefire was brokered by Egypt followed by growing pressure from foreign leaders to de-escalate the conflict. While few details of the ceasefire have been announced, Israel described the agreement as "mutual and unconditional." According to Reuters.com, the White House said they had received assurances from the relevant parties that they were committed to the ceasefire.
