In late May 2021, social media users speculated whether or not Amy Coney Barrett was arrested and put on house arrest.
Misbar’s Analysis
Social media posts sharing the claim largely cite Real Raw News as their source: “Military Puts SCJ Amy Coney Barrett on House Arrest.” The article asserts that the supreme court justice was arrested by the military and given an ankle monitor.
However, Misbar's investigation found that Real Raw News is not only a questionable news sources – it’s not news at all. Not a single article has any sources or citations beyond a vague “our source said” every now and then. Other articles include “Pence Shot While Fleeing Military Arrest“ and “Hillary Clinton Hanged at GITMO.” These articles are more like short stories with a conspiracy theme, usually with the military arresting or executing someone controversial with Trump supporters.
On the “About” page, it outright says that the website is a work of satire.
While this website’s articles are no doubt entertaining, they can’t be mistaken for real news, regardless of the website’s name.
Just to make sure, however, we searched arrest records and military arrest records and found no mention of Barrett in either.
