According to some on social media, 145,000 absentee ballots cast in Fulton County, Georgia during the 2020 election will be recounted.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar has discovered that the Fulton County voting recount is a story that continues to unfold. According to the Georgia Recorder, a lawsuit was filed by election activists in Fulton County, Georgia that asked for 145,000 ballots to be recounted. The lawsuit alleges that Fulton County election staff improperly counted the ballots. On May 21, 2021, a judge ruled in favor of the nine plaintiffs, saying that officials must unseal and recount the ballots in question.
However, last week Fulton County retained the services of an Atlanta law firm who asked the Judge to reconsider his order for a recount of the ballots. In response, the judge canceled the meeting which was scheduled to create a plan to review the absentee ballots. Instead, he set a June 21, 2021 date to hear Fulton County’s attorneys argue why the review of ballot images should never get underway.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, if the recount does happen, the ballots will remain in the custody of Fulton County, and only images of the ballots will be shared with the investigators to prevent any altering of the originally cast ballots.
It is uncertain at this point if the Georgia absentee ballots in question will be recounted. A date of June 21, 2021 has been set to hear arguments from attorneys representing Fulton County.
