Biden is Misquoted After Viral TikTok Video

A circulating TikTok video and its accompanying meme focus on part of a sentence from a Biden campaign speech. Users claim to hear Biden saying something nonsensical: “The same stable Jesus that said that the biggest problem we had in the Revolutionary War is we didn't have enough airports.”
The video incited speculation towards Biden’s mental health and well-being, with one user commenting that he was drunk, and another writing, “Why the hell is this moron our President [sic] of the United States?”
Misbar’s Analysis
In the video, Biden is actually saying, “...the same stable genius who said the biggest problem we had in the Revolutionary War is we didn’t have enough airports,” which can be heard in the video. The clip is from a campaign rally in Tampa, Fl from October 29, 2020, and Biden was commenting on statements made by his then opponent, former President Trump.
In the first part of the sentence, Biden refers to the time when Trump called himself a “stable genius” in response to a reporter who asked about his Twitter activity. In the second part, Biden is recalling a 2019 Fourth of July speech in which Trump said that the Continental Army “took over the airports” in 1775 during the Revolutionary War. (The first airport in the world was established in 1909, over 100 years after the end of the Revolutionary War.)
Biden was highlighting Trump's political gaffe's in order to show his inadequacy as a president. His full statement was the following: “Donald Trump when he thinks of climate change, he says hoax. Well, guess what? Speaking of hoaxes, remember what he said about these increasing violent hurricanes and the frequency? He actually said, maybe we should detonate a nuclear bomb over the Atlantic. By the way, the same stable genius who said, the biggest problem we had in the revolutionary war is we didn’t have enough airports. Whoa. Man, I tell you, what. His answer to families in Puerto Rico, struggling through Hurricane Maria was, what would he do? Toss rolls of paper towels at them. He doesn’t have any real answers.”
