Misbar’s Analysis

MENA: Misbar watched the video and found that it features a number of individuals carrying a covered body down the street. A siren goes off and the funeral participants abandon the body and run from the scene. A short time later, the supposed “corpse” gets up and runs as well. The users sharing the video claim that it was staged by Hamas in Gaza in order to garner sympathy due to the 2021 conflict.

However, the video can be found on YouTube dating back to March 2020, well before the recent crisis between Israel and Gaza began. The video was originally filmed in Jordan and not Gaza.

It was purported to show a number of individuals faking a funeral in order to get around the country’s coronavirus lockdown restrictions. It was one of many viral videos filmed during Jordan’s lockdown showing the humorous ways locals got around the restrictions. Jordon’s lockdown laws were rather strict and led to hundreds of people being arrested.
