Images widely circulating on social media depict a Palestinian man in multiple frames kneeling on the ground with a bloody head injury while Israeli soldiers stand next to him talking. Pictures were shared claiming this was the last moment for the Palestinian identified as Fadi Washha, who was shot in the head by the Israeli army during a protest and died.
Misbar’s Analysis
MENA: The Misbar investigation found the circulating misleading, the images circulating took place in 2019. Still, Fadi Washha did sustain a gunshot wound to the head and died last week. Using a Google search of Fadi Washha, the Palestinian citizen was arrested numerous times for resisting the occupation. Hudhayfah Suroor took the images with a caption that read: “Israeli security forces detain a Palestinian demonstrator who was wounded by Israeli security forces during a demonstration against Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, at the Beit El checkpoint near the West Bank city of Ramallah, on 16 November 2019” shown below.
Washha sustained a gunshot wound to the head on 15th May by the Israeli Army during a protest at the northern entrance to Al-Bireh in the West Bank. He spent two weeks in the intensive care unit before succumbing to his injuries. On June 2, the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed his death, and the Palestinian widely attended his funeral.
