Origin: Charlie Kirk, owner and spokesperson for Turning Point USA, shared a tweet about Dr. Anthony Fauci’s upcoming book, Expect the Unexpected: Ten Lessons on Truth, Service, and the Way Forward. He claimed that Fauci stands to “make millions” off of it, commenting, “What a disgrace.” Later tweets also claim the book was pulled from Barnes & Noble’s shelves because of the criticism surrounding his royalties.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s analysis found these claims to be false. A spokesperson for National Geographic Books told The Hill that Dr. Fauci will not receive any royalties for Expect the Unexpected or for its accompanying documentary. The book is a collection of interviews and speeches and is slated for release in November. Published on June 1, before Charlie Kirk created the Tweet criticizing Dr. Fauci, this article mentions that some sellers accidentally released the book too early, causing it to be taken back off their sites when the error was discovered. National Geographic confirmed the information to The Daily Mail on June 2nd. They also restated that Dr. Fauci will receive no payment whatsoever for the book.
