The Claim

President Biden’s new conservation plan will involve the seizure of privately owned land.

Emerging story

Biden issued a plan to get the federal government to protect at least 30 percent of the nation’s land and waters by 2030, dubbed the 30x30 plan. Some people expressed concern, including several Republican politicians who banned together to “resist” Biden’s plan.

They assert that Biden is going to seize private property belonging to farmers, ranchers, and other types of landowners.

Misbar’s Analysis

Biden’s 30x30 plan doesn’t involve seizing property. Nowhere does it say that people will have their assets taken from them. “Conservation” in this case refers to protecting land, not owning it. It does mention how private landholders will fit into the plan, however.

The plan specifically says that it intends on working with private landholders to aid in conservation efforts, and outright says that landowner cooperation is strictly mandatory. We can’t be certain where those letter writers got their information from, but there’s nothing to suggest that the federal government is going to be seizing land for the 30x30 plan.
