Celine Dion Golden Knights Pic Is Photoshopped
The Claim
Canadian singer Celine Dion wore Las Vegas Golden Knights gear, which was a betrayal to her Montreal home team.
Emerging story
Last week, a photo of Canadian singer Celine Dion wearing what appears to be a Las Vegas Golden Knights helmet and jersey was displayed on the scoreboard during an NHL game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Fans expected Dion, who is a Quebec native, to support her home team, and were incensed by the image, with some calling her a traitor to her country.
Misbar’s Analysis
The image of Dion wearing Golden Knights gear was photoshopped using a promotional photo from her 2007 album Taking Chances. The iconic singer confirmed that she had not approved of the image in a Thursday tweet. “I have nothing to do with this photo…. And you know what photo I'm talking about!" Dion wrote in French.
A representative for the singer also confirmed that they had not been contacted for use of the photo. The display of the image was meant to troll Montreal fans by the opposing team.
Complicating the controversy is that the singer was spotted in 2018 wearing a Golden Knights jersey, to which Montreal Canadiens responded lightheartedly, “Our hearts will go on.”
Dion also has an upcoming residency in Las Vegas, in which she is scheduled to perform ten shows in November 2021.
