Since July 9, news websites and social media users on Facebook and Twitter are circulating news that the World Health Organization (WHO) has officially approved the Iranian vaccine.
Misbar’s Analysis
MENA: Misbar's team investigation found the circulating claim false. The Iranian vaccine was not on the World Health Organization's website list for the approved vaccines. The World Health Organization has a vaccine tracker website the includes all the approved vaccines, shown below.
Sputnik Arabic reported the Iranian vaccine is still within the third clinical stage of testing, stressing that the results will be immediately sent upon completion to the World Health Organization to approve its approved standards.
The Iranian news agency published a statement by the spokesman of the World Health Organization, Tariq Yasarevich, in January welcoming the production of the COVID-19 vaccine by Iran and other countries. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei received the first dose of the "COVIRAN Bereket" vaccine against COVID-19 in Tehran, Iran, on June 25, 2021.
