Emerging story
An image has been circulating on social media that insinuates that Nancy Pelosi’s son-in-law was working with the much photographed Capitol rioter known to some as Buffalo Guy. Some have suggested the photo is proof that the protester was hired by the left and that Nancy Pelosi was behind the rioting. Others wondered why her son-in-law was not arrested also.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar discovered that the photo does show Pelosi’s son-in-law, Dutch-American Journalist Michiel Vos with none other than Jake Angeli, a Trump supporter sometimes referred to as Buffalo Guy since the Capitol insurgence.
However, the two were not exactly working together. Instead, the journalist was reporting the insurrection for the Dutch television channel RTL 4’s talk show Jinek. Vos was doing his job and reporting on the riot and took this picture along with many others for the Dutch broadcast. Otherwise, it does not appear that he had any other connection to Angeli than just finding an interesting person to photograph.
After the January 6, 2021 insurgency, Angeli was arrested. According to Reuters.com, he was transferred to a federal prison in Colorado on June 10, 2021 where he will undergo a mental health evaluation to assess his competency to stand trial.
While the photo being circulated does show Angeli and Vos together, there is not a connection between Pelosi and Angeli. Rather, Pelosi’s son-in-law is a Dutch journalist and included the footage of Angeli in the broadcast covering the riot.
