A viral post claims that in response to Muslim parents’ demanding for pork to be removed from school menus in Montreal and its suburbs, a Canadian mayor sent out an anti-Muslim note.
Misbar’s Analysis
MENA: Misbar has determined that this claim is a hoax. The city of Dorval’s website issued a statement to address this claim, clarifying that the mayor never made these comments and that the whole scenario was fabricated.
The image that’s attached to the viral post is also misattributed to the Dorval mayor. The image features Belgium politician Tanguy Veys during a 2008 demonstration against Islamization in Brussels.
Similar false claims have been made against other mayors. In 2014, the mayor of Ath issued a statement regarding a similar hoax. The same claim was made featuring a London mayor in 2016 and a Perth mayor in 2020 as well.
