The Claim

KitKat released a new bar with “no straight lines” to celebrate “Gay Month.”

Emerging story

The claim, which has been around since 2019, recirculated throughout summer 2021 during Pride Month and subsequent festivities.

Misbar’s Analysis

We conducted a reverse image search of the image and found that it does not depict a Pride Month (or “Gay Month”) KitKat bar. Instead, it shows a chocolate bar created by Belgian chocolate company Chocolate World, who posted an image of the bizarrely-divided chocolate bar on Instagram in 2019.

The bar was “designed to be different.”

Just in case, we scoured product pages for Nestle, which produces KitKat bars, and found no such product.

KitKat did release a pink raspberry-flavored white chocolate bar in 2018, which LGBT publication Pink News called a “gay KitKat,” but that is not the same as the chocolate bar depicted in the viral claim.
