Emerging story
Since as early as 2018, social media users have been sharing a photo of Donald Trump and John F. Kennedy Jr accompanied by the following alleged quote: “If my dear friend Donald Trump ever decided to sacrifice his fabulous lifestyle to become President he would be an unstoppable force for ultimate justice that Democrats and Republicans alike would celebrate.” The quote is attributed to JFK Jr. in a 1999 issue of a magazine called George.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s investigation found no evidence that this statement was ever spoken by JFK Jr. In fact, the only time JFK Jr. mentioned Donald Trump having anything to do with the Presidency was after noting how much more ostentatious Trump’s home was than a nearby Kennedy family home. When asked about his own possible run for President, he said that those questions were better being asked of Donald Trump.
George magazine was founded by John F. Kennedy Jr. and Michael J. Berman in 1995 and ran through 2001. Archivists at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library confirmed to Reuters that there is no record or evidence of JFK Jr. ever speaking the words in the above quote, and they were not in that issue of George.
Kennedy’s political bent was as a liberal democrat, but he did enjoy hearing opinions that differed and notably published articles by Kellyanne Conway in his magazine. Any assumption about how Kennedy would feel about Trump’s presidency would be speculation, but the two were acquainted and the photo is real.
