Emerging story
In an allegedly official statement, President Trump insulted American football quarterback Tom Brady by calling him āTom āShadyāā while also repeating his previous claims of the 2020 presidential election having been āRigged.ā Social media users began sharing screenshots of the statement and commented on how in-character it sounded for the former President.
Misbarās Analysis
This statement is completely fabricated. A search of Trumpās official website shows that no such post exists, and Trump has made no mention of Brady in any recent statements.
The catalyst for a potential feud between Brady and Trump that would motivate such a statement occurred on July 20, when the football quarterback and his team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, were guests at the White House. They had been invited to win the Super Bowl this year, and Brady was invited to make some remarks while standing next to President Biden.
During his speech, Brady made several quips at Trumpās expense. He commented that āNot a lot of people think that we couldāve won. In fact, I think about 40% still donāt think we won,ā and shared a laughing moment with Biden. Brady then joked that after making a mistake during a game, fans had begun to call him āsleepy Tom after making a mistake during a game.ā Both of these comments were references to Trump; the first alluded to his claims of election fraud, and the latter was mocking Trumpās nickname for Joe Biden, āsleepy Joe.ā
Some outlets have suggested that due to Bradyās historic friendship with Trump, the former President was likely to have been insulted by the jokes made at the White House. But so far, no comments from Trump on the subject have surfaced.
