The Claim

A report of the world population shows a much smaller male population relative to the female population.

Emerging story

A United Nations quarterly demographic report has routinely been shared on social media. It claims that there are 5.6 billion women and 2.2 billion men. It further elaborates on the male population, divvying it up by employment, sexual orientation, and whether or not someone is a Catholic priest.

Misbar’s Analysis

The United Nations does not have a quarterly demographic report. Furthermore, these numbers are off the mark. In 2019, there were more men than women, with 50.416 percent of the world population being male. The world’s estimated population was 7.674 billion. That means that there would be over 3.8 billion men.
