Emerging story
France’s President Emmanuel Macron traveled to Tahiti on Sunday, and by Monday, a photo began to spread on Twitter that showed him covered to his knees in wreaths of flowers placed around the neck. Originating from a video posted, the photos and video have elicited jokes and memes from social media users.
Misbar’s Analysis
The video and photo of President Macron are manipulated images. The original is much more subdued. The eight second video shows obvious manipulation at the six-second mark. The movement of the leis towards Macron’s back is out of sync and cloned sections move together unnaturally. The sections circled in the following photo can be observed as exactly alike, due to cloning.
Aside from this, the original footage from the visit can be seen here. At 58 seconds, the shot in which the manipulated photograph was derived can be seen.
