Misbar’s Analysis

The viral post does not feature a photo that was taken from the International Space Station. We conducted a reverse image search and found that it is actually a piece of digital art. The art was created using Terragen 2 by Planetside Software. The original image was shared on Deviant Art by user A4size-ska.

While this image is fake, there are legitimate solar eclipse photos from astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Some of the most recent images were taken during the total solar eclipse that passed over the United States on August 21, 2017. International Space Station astronauts had several opportunities the photograph the event using cameras outfitted with special filters that allowed them to capture it.
