Social media users in English and Arabic are circulating a video that depicts a building on fire. The accompanying claim is that the video is of burning buildings in Turkey. Users added that the wildfires have expanded to cities and buildings.
Misbar’s Analysis
A Google reverse image search was done and investigated, as seen below.
The results revealed that the fire in the circulating video occurred in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on 17 June 2021. Other credible news sites in the Middle East also reported on the fire here and here, pictured below.
Given the findings, the Misbar team concludes that the video did not take place in Turkey and does not depict the current fires.
