FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi reached an agreement and both parties had an obvious intention to sign a new contract, but the Spanish LaLiga regulations on player registration were the barrier.
In a press conference, Joan Laporta, Barcelona's chief, stated that they decided to get to this point because of its economic situation. He added Lionel Messi's contract was a risk to the club.
However, Laporta did not mention anything related to Messi being kicked out of the team in the press release.
Messi, who joined Barca’s when he was 13, is the club’s all-time top scorer with 672 in a record 778 appearances.
