A viral video is circulating on social media, and online publications here depict a man crying outside a gated area holding Lionel Messi’s football jersey. The claim is that the man is in tears outside the Camp Nou stadium following the news that Messi is leaving the Barcelona football club.
Misbar’s Analysis
A reverse image search on Google revealed that the image was shared on Twitter in August 2020, pictured below.
The video was also found uploaded on Youtube around the same time.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the man was crying outside the Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona, Spain. However, it was not related to Messi currently leaving the Barcelona club. The video was recorded in August 2020, when Lionel Messi requested to leave the club, citing a clause in his contract. However, it was later agreed that he would stay until the end of his contractual obligation.
Given the findings, the Misbar team concludes that the video is misleading. Although Messi has now left Barcelona, the circulating video was related to another Messi incident last year.
